It isn’t every young footballer that can claim to have been spotted and recommended by Stan Matthews but that is exactly what happened to young Brian Peterson. Stan was playing exhibition football in South Africa and when he encountered a Natal Province representative side he spotted this young and talented ball player at inside right for the opposition. After the game Stan approached him and asked if he was interested in pursuing a professional football career in England. When he said that he was, Stan said that he would put in a good word with Blackpool manager Joe Smith. And Peterson was happy with that for he already had a friend in the Blackpool camp in fellow South African Bill Perry. It all happened as Stan planned and Peterson flew over to England to join Blackpool where he spent six seasons, playing over 100 League games in the top flight. Sadly he died on 21 September 2020 and this book is a tribute to his talent.
